June, 2010 Researcher of the Month – Elizabeth Hicks

Elizabeth Hicks is a Chartered Accountant and an Associate Professor in the Business and Tourism Department of Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax. She is a co-applicant of the Social Economy and Sustainability Research Network.

Social Economy Stories – June 2010 – Sue Rickards

Sue Rickards is an educator and community practitioner. She occasionally teaches a course called “Community Practitioners as Agents of Change” in the University of New Brunswick’s (NB) Adult Education program. She was a member of the Community Non-Profi t Task Force which presented a report to the Premier called “New Brunswick Blueprint for Action: Building a Foundation for Self-sufficiency.”

Louis Grenier is past Executive Director of the Conseil de la coopération de l’Ontario (CCO), an organization representing Francophone co-operatives across Ontario. The CCO’s mission is to help develop the Social Economy in Francophone communities by supporting co-operatives. It achieves this mission by helping co-operatives to work together, by promoting the interests of Francophone cooperatives and by supporting their development.

April 2010 Practitioner of the Month – Phil Ferraro

Phil Ferraro is the co-founder and co-director of the Institute for Bioregional Studies in Charlottetown, PEI. The Institute hosts “Social Forums,” usually every two/three weeks in Charlottetown.  Phil has played an integral role in initiating and organizing these community events.

September 2009 Researcher of the Month – Lucie Dumais

Lucie Dumais is a Sociologist and political scientist. She has worked in academia for 20-years in both Ontario and Quebec. Her current research includes evaluative studies on disability and immigration (in Quebec and in Canada) with special attention to social enterprises and employment supports for disabled people and immigrants, as well as comparative studies of policies and programmes.
