October 2007 Researcher of the Month - Jorge Sousa

sousaJorge Sousa completed his PhD at The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Alberta, in the specialization of Adult Education. He is currently a co-investigator with Community-University Research Alliance for Southern Ontario’s Social Economy and the B.C.-Alberta Social Economy Research Alliance.

Jorge’s research interests include: learning styles and social processes in Social Economy organizations; community governance models; building community capacity using audio/visual technology; community development; community economic development; housing policy; popular education and local democracy movements; life transitions of graduate and post-graduate students.

Jorge has worked with community-based non-profit organizations in Edmonton and Toronto in conducting research as well as consulting on planning processes relevant to capacity building and development. Jorge is currently working with Community-Based Organizations in Edmonton to develop learning partnerships that accounts for the different needs of learners within the University and Learners within these organizations. The objective of the partnerships is to pursue learning strategies that will familiarize students with the Social Economy through experiential and reflective learning.
