Speaking notes for the Right Honourable Paul Martin P.C., M.P., Toronto, Ontario It is a great pleasure for me to be here with you this afternoon and a great honour to have been invited by the wonderful and formidable Janice Stein to give a lecture at the Munk Centre. Before I begin however – one exculpatory caveat! How I came to be a proponent of social enterprise, I will explain in the course of my remarks. But given that these are to be followed by a period of questions and comments, I would like to point out that there are a number of social enterprise advocates who are among us today and who have been trying to break the shackles of conventional thinking for a long time, certainly long before me. Based on their experience and knowledge, they should be doing the speaking and I the listening, and I very much hope we will be hearing from them before the afternoon is over...
