Abstract

This study examines central leadership competencies while investigating the influencing factors in the recruitment of new board members for rural nonprofit boards. Included is a review of relevant academic literature in leadership, nonprofit board development, and governance. The research findings add to the existing literature. The purpose and focus of the research is to enhance the organizations ability to meet its recruitment needs through board development, governance excellence, and organizational clarity. This action-based research provides a significant opportunity for the Lakeland United Way to become skilled at recruitment strategies for successful board development. This study adhered to Royal Roads Universitys (2004) Research Ethics Policy . These principles guided how I conducted my research and influenced my approach when respectfully interacting with all participants.
