David Natcher, from the website of the Memorial University of Newfoundland:

david-natcher.jpg" I am an Assistant Professor in Cultural Anthropology and recipient of a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Aboriginal Studies. My areas of academic interest lie in human and political ecology, applied anthropology, traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), natural resource management, environmental anthropology, social forestry, and common-property theory. Prior to joining Memorial University I was an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Alaska where I also served as Director for the Program of Interdisciplinary Studies. My interest in interdisciplinary approaches to education extend to my current research where I, together with colleagues from the natural and social sciences are exploring the interaction between social and ecological systems in the Arctic and sub- Arctic environments. Specifically we are examining anthropogenic changes in land cover and the resulting impacts on climate change. I am also working with several Aboriginal communities across Canada in the design and implementation of new forms of Aboriginal forest tenures that are reflective of Aboriginal values, knowledge, and traditional institutions. This specific research is housed in my broader research agenda that addresses the challenges and opportunities for Aboriginal self-government in the post-land claims environment. Recent publications (since 2002) have appeared in Human Ecology, Anthropologica, Human Organization, Land Use Policy, the International Journal of Sustainable Development and World Ecology, Canadian Journal of Native Studies, the Alaska Journal of Anthropology, the International Journal of Canadian Studies, as well as in edited monographs that include, Natural Resources and Aboriginal Peoples in Canada (Captus Press) and Indigenous Autonomy and Self- Determination: Challenges for Liberal Democracies (University of Queensland Press)."
