Ashley Hamilton-MacQuarrie

Knowledge Mobilization, Canadian Social Economy Hub

Ashley has earned a BA in geography from the University of Victoria, and a diploma in photojournalism from The Western Academy of Photography. As the Knowledge Mobilization Coordinator for the Canadian Social Economy Hub, she is combining her research experience in the social sciences with expertise in writing, photography and graphic design. She has created and published a variety of documents for a range of organizations including universities, newspapers, magazines and non-governmental organizations.

In addition to journalism, Ashley has a breadth of experience working in education, and has been a Climate Change Educator with City Green Solutions in Victoria, and an Organic Agriculture Educator with the Falls Brook Centre in New Brunswick.

Although Ashley has many interests, she is particularly keen on learning about issues relating to local food systems. She had the opportunity to work with organic food initiatives in Mexico during an internship with the Canadian International Development Agency, and help preserve agricultural land on Vancouver Island with the Farmlands Trust.

Her time working with NGOs has inspired her to use her communication skills to help raise awareness, strengthen relationships and improve communication processes.
